Functions of a film distribution company

The production company is directly responsible for fundraising the production of a film. It may accomplish this through a higher company, partner or private investor. The production company handles budgeting, scheduling, scripting, the supply of resources, the organization of staff, the production itself, post-production, distribution and marketing. Production companies are often either owned or under contract with a media conglomerate, film studio, entertainment company, or Motion Picture Company, who act as the production company's partner or parent company. This has become known as the "studio system". They can also be mainstream independent or completely independent. In the case of producing for TV, the production company would serve under a television network. Production companies can work together in co-productions. Marketing is also a key part in the release of a new film - it doesn't make a difference as to how good it is, if it isn't marketed effectively, no one will know about it's existance. However, if the marketing is good then the result is usually financially rewarding.
