the audience of horror films
If representations are constructed, then to be read and
understood they must be deconstructed by the audience. This process of
deconstruction and interpretation is not necessarily aware and different
audiences respond in different ways. For example, a film that is very well
known with American audiences may not be such a big hit in Britain, because it
doesn’t connect with the audience in the same way that it would with American
viewers.
A horror films target audience is generally those in the age
group 15-25. It is mostly aimed at men as they are more likely to be able to
interact with the characters on screen. Women can interact with those on screen
to but they would tend to react differently.
The secondary audience is dating couples. This is more likely to be either very close but not married couples or first date couples, as the female clings to the male for comfort and support because she’s afraid.

The target audience for my horror movie is working to middle
class males aged 16 to 30. The events which take place in the film, such as
suffocation and stalking, may be seen by a lot of people as unsuitable for
people aged younger than 16. The supernatural features and high tension would
appeal to older teenagers because of the high interest rate in those aspects.
The slutty and adventurous nature of one of the female characters may appeal to
the male audience, as said in the Male Gaze theory, and it will entertain them
with the actions and appearance of the female characters.
